This is because the DOS 720K format is considered old technology, which Microsoft moving away from this old format. It is however still possible to format 720K DOS disks by using the command line "Format /t:80 /n:9 a:". Rather than try to remember this command line though, Wilcom Support has packaged this command line into a small batch file which you can simply run from your Desktop.

Download and Installation Instructions:

1) Click here to download the WinXP_720K.bat file (1 kb) and click the Save button when prompted.
2) Select your Windows Desktop as the location to save the 'WinXP_720K.bat' file to, then click the Save button to save the file to your Desktop.
3) To run the utility, double-click the 'WinXP_720K.bat' file.
4) Follow the on-screen instructions to format the disk.

Caution: Always use DS/DD disks when formatting as 720K.
